History of NUGRANAD Family
Sub and his two younger brothers lived during the reign of King Rama V & VI of Thailand and they were part of the Royal Thai Classical music band. For their specific roles as royal musicians, the three brothers were given three different surnames by H.M. King Rama VI:
1. NUGRANAD (nak-ra-nad) 2. BA^DYA^JIVA (pat-ta-ya-chi-wa)
3. BA^DYA^KOSOL (pat-ta-ya-go-son)
However, years later Sub chose to leave the palace to live a more common life style. He and his family traveled by boat from Bangkok to Nonthaburi, then Ban Sai Rong Khon in Tapanhin District, Pichit, and finally settled down in the Phitsanulok Province. One of his daughters was married to Khun Witedpumatorn, a royal officer, and remained in the palace. Since then most Nugranad Family members were born and raised in Phitsanulok.
Sub's children (who were at the time already grown-up) and grandchildren, however, had to live and work hard further away from his talent in the Ranad and Thai classical music. Sub's Ranad was donated to the temple in the village where his grandchildren were raised.
One of his great-grandsons is Mr. Chaiwat Nugranad, who is the 4th generation and currently the oldest Nugranad alive. He reached his 80th birthday on June 5th, 2007.
Chaiwat was married to Boonlom (Patchumporn) In 1953. Boonlom was a daughter of Muen Chumworapat (Ploy Patchumporn) who was the Chief of the Sang Dao Village, Pakthok sub-district of Amphoe Muang, Phitsanulok Province. Chaiwat and Boonlom have 3 daughters:
2. Dr. Nittaya Nugranad Milne
At a young age, Jarunee Nugranad chose to learn Thai classical music and decided to play the "Ranad" in the school band at the Chalerm Kwan Satree School, in Phitsanulok Province. Surprisingly, Dr. Jarunee Nugranad-Marzilli is the only Nugranad decendent who learned and knows how to play the Ranad.
